6-WEEK INTRODUCTION TO IYENGAR YOGA

LEARN THE BASIC ACTIONS INVOLVED IN YOGA POSES (ASANAS) FOR A SAFE PRACTICE  PROGRAMME

Week 1     STANDING POSES-BASIC ACTIONS OF THE LEGS AND LOWER BODY

Week 2     STANDING POSES-BASIC ACTIONS OF THE ARMS AND UPPER BODY

Week 3     STANDING POSES-FORWARD BENDS

THE BASIC STANDING AND FORWARD BENDING POSES: they form the foundation of any regular practice

Week 4     STANDING POSES-FORWARD BENDS AND TWISTS

THE FOUNDATION POSES WILL LEAD ONTO STANDING AND SITTING TWISTING POSES: principles learned during the previous classes will become useful in the practice of more challenging twisting actions

Week 5     BACK BENDS-STANDING POSES AND BACK BENDS

BACK BENDING POSES: principles learned during the first two classes will be consolidated and will become useful in the practice of back bends.

Week 6     RESTORATIVE PRACTICE-USE OF PROPS FOR  A TYPICAL RESTORATIVE  SEQUENCE

During the final session a restorative sequence will be practised. Some time will be given to the use of props according to individual needs for maximum benefit. Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) will be practised with a chair.

THROUGHOUT THE COURSE, THERE WILL BE A CHANCE TO: TOUCH ON A FEW SIMPLE CONCEPTS BASED ON YOGA PHILOSOPHY.
